ABOUT
SUSTAINABLE FOOD
Sustainable Food is a movement of young consumers in Texas and beyond who support traditional farming practices to respect the Earth and sustain our food supply.
MISSION & HISTORY.
Did you know that as global temperatures rise and weather patterns change, our food supply is threatened? Did you know that Texas is one of the top agriculture producers in the country, but has a level of food insecurity above the national average? Young people are very concerned about this situation and wondering if there is a way to make a difference.
Texans for Indigenous, Heritage & Sustainable Agriculture is a grassroots, youth-led, nonprofit organization that empowers our generation to lead the charge in transforming the agricultural industry into a greener, and more sustainable landscape through scientific research, public education, and advocacy. Our mission is to promote a sustainable agriculture – to eradicate food insecurity and ensure our food supply endures despite climate change.
TIHSA was founded by teen influencer and aspiring agricultural scientist Nimesh Ramanujakootam. When Nimesh became aware of the threat to our food supply due to the changing climate, he founded TIHSA to organize youth voices to do something about it. The study of traditional farming practices, including indigenous and heritage agriculture, is a key area of study for Nimesh, and through TIHSA he involves other teens to learn about these issues and leverage their collective voices.
Together we’ll reshape the future of food for sustainable solutions to feed our communities as we adapt to the realities of climate change.
FOR PEOPLE & THE PLANET
SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRACTICES
Texans for Indigenous, Heritage & Sustainable Agriculture is a movement to eradicate food insecurity and ensure a sustainable food supply in the face of the threats to human society due to climate change. changing climate. Most Texans take our food supply for granted because of the agricultural abundance in our state. However, they are shocked to find that there is a prevalent food insecurity problem in Texas and that it will only get worse with climate change. Extreme heat, drastic weather fluctuations, unpredictability about the water supply, will affect all of us and the food that is being grown for everyone to eat. We study and promote traditional agricultural practices to empower consumers to support sustainable food sources in their communities, and in Texas as a whole.
